Extending DOORS Next Generation – Part 1: Form and Function


With the release of DOORS Next Generation 5.0, IBM introduced a long-awaited feature for those evaluating a move from “Traditional DOORS” (DOORS 9.x): the ability to extend functionality through scripting.

DXL (DOORS eXtension Language) has grown to be a popular capability for extending IBM Rational DOORS to suit the needs for DOORS users. With it, users can customize formatting, perform administrative functions, and extract data from requirements attributes easily and effectively.

While this new functionality in DOORS Next Generation at present doesn’t have the immense library of scripts that have been written in DXL, it does show promise in providing another means of providing customization on the Jazz platform to suit an enterprise’s needs.
